CAPE TOWN, CAPE POINT, WINE COUNTRY, SABI SANDS GAME RESERVE

December is mid-summer in South Africa.  If you’re ever in Cape Town, I highly recommend the Table Bay Hotel. You won’t want to miss the brunch; the selection of delectable food is unparalleled.

I had an opportunity to explore the wine country, sampling some vino at a couple of the wineries.

Mpumalanga, South Africa.

This sumptuous lodge was a wonderful place to unwind. They offer a morning and sunset safari where you can see all of the big game in their natural habitat. The lodge has two pools, an outside dining, a spa, and flawless service.

We tracked this jaguar for about an hour while she hunted, the scent from a nearby pack of gazelle capturing her attention.  What an experience to witness the laser-sharp focus of the ultimate huntress!  At one point, I found myself within three feet of this majestic beast as she stalked her prey, passing closely by our jeep and causing the hair on the back of my neck to rise.

Up close and personal: I felt a bit uneasy about the limited amount of distance between this lethal horn and my lens, but it made for a great photo.

  1. I love how you’ve summed it up. I must say, I don’t have the stomach to watch hyenas feed.
